Who can attend your cafés?2020-11-08T13:38:47+00:00

Anyone with a long term neurological condition can attend, this includes people who haven’t received a diagnosis yet. We also welcome friends and family members of people with a neurological condition.

What is a neurological condition?2020-11-08T13:38:42+00:00

Neurological conditions result from damage to the brain, spinal column or peripheral nerves. Some neurological conditions are life threatening, with many affecting a person’s quality of life.

There are over 600 types of neurological conditions, which are broadly categorised into:

  • Sudden onset conditions (e.g. acquired brain injury or spinal cord injury)
  • Intermittent and unpredictable conditions (e.g. epilepsy, ME, certain types of headache, or the early stages of multiple sclerosis)
  • Progressive conditions (e.g. motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease, or later stages of multiple sclerosis)
  • Stable neurological conditions (e.g. post-polio syndrome, or cerebral palsy in adults)
Do I need to book to attend a café (online or face to face)?2020-11-08T13:38:37+00:00

No, please just turn up, you will be very welcome.

Does attending a café cost anything?2020-11-08T13:38:31+00:00

No – there is no cost to attending a café. For the daytime cafés if you want a drink or anything to eat, you will need to buy it.

Is there any support for me to get to the cafés?2020-11-17T16:04:53+00:00

At the moment we can’t offer any support – either financial or practical – to help people get to the cafés. However, York has a number of community transport schemes that may be able to help. If you still need help please contact us and we can see if there is anything we can do.

Do you offer care and support at the cafés?2020-11-08T13:38:22+00:00

No, we cannot provide any personal care at our cafés. If you need personal care, we expect you to have someone with you to support you.
